Nkhoots Surprises In Valley Junction Futurity

ALTOONA, IA—OCTOBER 17, 2014—Nkhoots (22-1) used an alert break to hold off a Gee Whit by a neck Friday night in the $279,950 Valley Junction Futurity at Prairie Meadows. Smart Money First finished three-quarters' back in the show position.

Ridden by jockey Jose Torres, Nkhoots surprise completed the 350 yards in a quick :17.163 seconds, a 108 speed index with the aid of a 20 mph tailwind. The $111,980 winner's purse pushed the daughter of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon's earnings mark to $128,822.

Clinton Crawford saddled the bay Oklahoma-bred to her third win in six starts this season for owner Duane Harrel. Harrel and Joann Adams bred Nkhoots from the Royal Quick Dash mare One Quick Question.

Gee Wit is a One Famous Eagle filly owned by Tom and Bill Maher and trained by Jason Olmstead. Cody Smith rode the sorrel miss out of Ally Kazaam, by Shazoom. Bred in Texas by J Bar 7 Ranch, LLC, Gee Wit earned $47,592 for her effort.

Victory Farms' Smart Money First earned $27,995 for his third place effort. Brian Muse conditions the First Smart Money gelding out of Beduinos Chick Jet, by Rock Em Smooth. Bred in Oklahoma by Joe and Judith Chappell Trust, Smart Money First picked up $27,995.

Completing the field were Days Gone Down, Pv Ima Sparky Too, Enthrall, Nanny McFeebe, Jk Hard Times, Bp Cartels Policy and Rg Three.
